About Gene and Protein Engineering Laboratory
The Gene and Protein Engineering Laboratory (GPEL) started its journey in 2017. Since inception the GPEL focuses on translational biotechnology at the interface of genetic engineering, protein engineering, and cellular bioengineering. The laboratory is developing innovative platforms for recombinant biotherapeutic production, transgenesis, genome editing, exosome engineering, and functional genomics, with applications in human and animal health.
Through interdisciplinary research integrating molecular biology, synthetic biology, and reproductive biotechnology, the lab aims to translate fundamental discoveries into scalable technologies with real-world biomedical and agricultural impact.
We began our journey at BRIC-National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB) at the interim campus in Miyapur, Hyderabad. We shifted along with NIAB to our own campus at Gowlidoddi, Gachibowli, and reestablished ourselves there. Slowly started with establishing our core competencies through support of NIAB’s Core funding, along with support from various extramural grants.
In this journey to date, as team GPEL, we have nurtured and trained many research enthusiasts as Post Docs, PhD Scholars, Project Fellows, and Trainees. We have developed various technologies and are continuing to advance them.
As a team, we look forward to a sustainable future for mankind.
